"Cantarelli and soprano Gattuso bewitch the city of Borgotaro.
Applause for Jesus' Passion in music between history and faith.
Produced a DVD of the event"

BORGOTARO - A delightful and captivating 'canto' has narrated the history and especially the "Passion" of Jesus. Beppe Cantarelli, great musician-composer from Parma County, arranger of and collaborator with international stars, who now lives in Los Angeles, has premiered for the fellow citizens of Borgotaro, upon express invitation by the Vicar Monsignor Angelo Busi, his "Canto della Passione," a recital that is really meditation and prayer with music. Also part of the line-up the awesomely talented vocalist Giovanna Gattuso (soprano, musician, teacher and jazz singer) and a small section ("Little Angels Department") of the Millennium Choir, full bodied polyphonic ensemble (that has been the official choir in the Vatican and/or for Pope John Paul II in several occasions), directed by Beppe Cantarelli as well as by Giovanna Gattuso. The performance has been 100% "unplugged", with no microphones nor P.A. systems. The microphones, visible around the performers, were recording advices only, for the production of a live CD and DVD. Cantarelli has tried to interpret and re-live what Jesus saw and felt, through one of the most efficient and powerful ways of communication we, as human beings, have: the music. In particular, blending, in an almost magic fusion, the European classical genres with the blues and jazz tradition, more American and of a United States' heritage by antonomasia. The result is extremely fascinating. At the end of the last selection of the program, a spontaneous and collective standing ovation erupted in the XV century church. Standing ovation for someone who, maybe used to different musical genres and audiences, has been very capable to approach, with humility, but at the same time with genuine feelings and emotions along with great competence, an historical topic, "of faith" as well, so delicate, without any contamination, rather underlying and illuminating with his musical testimonial several aspects, quite often not considered in their wholeness and entirety, of that great event, extremely dramatic and enthralling, but with such positive implications to become tangible reason for conversions of entire nations through the centuries.
